The Friulana is the original Venetian slipper: the name dates back to the XIX century, when a few ingenious ladies from the countryside of Friuli began producing footwear with left-over fabrics and old bicycle tires. The Friulana was an immediate success in Venice among nobles, artists and gondolieres.

The rubber sole, made of bicycle tires, allow to have a firm grip when rowing their Gondolas while still protecting the precious pitch-black varnish.

As the Friulane become well known and wanted first around the country and later internationally, the external fabrics become increasingly precious using luxurious velvet.
